The tyre industry is not as profitable as one might think, be wary of “cheap” tyre

A tyre shop owner told us his story.  A friend of bought a set of tyres online at a bargain in FACEBOOK brought it to him for inspection and installation. Upon inspection they found out that the tyre’s surface is rough and has obvious repair marks on it. The only advise that the owner gave his friend is please beware when travelling at high speed.

Nothing more because he didn’t want to hurt his friend’s self-esteem by telling him straight that the tyre’s condition is second-hand / reconditioned. The shop owner faces a dilemma. Why does his friend requested him for inspection of the tyre as if he trusted him? But if he trusted the shop owner, why didn’t he just buy a brand new tyre from the shop owner?

Rather let unknown merchant cut-throat than letting an acquaintance to get the deal!

But in reality?

Dealing with acquaintance is definitely safer setting aside how much money they earn for the deal.

The tyre industry has very low profit margin!

Ten years ago, the tyre business was relatively good where there’s not much competitor around. Even though the profit margin is already low, it is still higher than what it is today! However nowadays the street is full of tyre workshop. Its is very competitive, in order to please customer they always give the best deal they can to customer especially regulars.

As for when dealing with friend the situation is even more realistic because the pricing is open and transparent. They will not offend a regulars/friend and destroy their shop’s reputation in order to earn just a small profit.

Believe it or not, a set of 4 pieces tyre package with free installations etc.. which costs around RM1000 will only bring in nett profit of approximately rm50!

Buying from acquaintances might not bring you the best deal in town but it’s definitely the safest choice!

Tyres are the only part of the vehicle that comes into contact with the ground and the importance of safety is self-evident.

When purchasing a second-hand/ reconditioned tyre you might encounter terms such as 90% new, exact branding/packaging as a brand new tyre, but who knows how the previous owner treated the said tyre?

Maybe it was treated as thrash.
Would you trust you safety to the said tyre especially now where there are bad quality chinese tyres out in the market?

Buying a tyre does not has to be cheapest! Cost effective, good results, customers trust is all that matters!
